Just one day after CNN reported the 6th vape-related death, the New York Times reported that the Trump Administration plans on banning flavored e-cigarettes. This new ban, that will undoubtedly slash the profits of companies like Juul, seems out of character for the Administration that, according to the New York Times, repealed the Clean Water Act in order to save farmers and business owners money. Here are the numbers that inspired the Administration’s one-eighty.

According to the CDC, there have been 380 reports of lung illness linked to e-cigarette use. Since August, there have been six cases that ended in death, including one that occurred last Tuesday in Kansas. The link between these cases and vape products is still being investigated and a cause has not yet been found; however, the CDC is urging vape users to monitor themselves for symptoms and encouraging others to refrain from using these products while they are under investigation. Products under investigation include devices, liquids, refill pods, and/or cartridges containing nicotine or THC.
