For those who don’t know, anime is Japanese animation that’s become widely popular overtime. Most anime are based off of a manga series. Manga are like the comic books we have here. There are all kinds of different anime genres for all age ranges, so there’s truly something for everyone. Some good often-recommend starter anime are Naruto, Sailor Moon, Love is War, and Charlotte.

  1. Naruto. Naruto is among one of the most well-known anime and manga series out there. Released in 1999 by Masashi Kishimoto, Naruto has continued rising in popularity. This show is about a 12-year-old ninja in training named Naruto Uzumaki. Due to the nine-tailed fox spirit being sealed inside of him shortly after birth, he is considered an outcast in his village. Despite that, Naruto is still fighting for his goal to become the greatest Hokage which is the leader of his village to prove everyone wrong about him.
  2. Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is an anime series based off of the hit manga series by Naoko Takeuchi. It is about a girl named Usagi Tsukino who finds out that she is the moon guardian. Using her newfound powers, Usagi must fight against evils from the dark kingdom and find and recruit the other sailor guardians. Though it came out in the early 90s, the series continues to be extremely popular and well known all over the world. In 2014 Sailor Moon Crystal, a reboot of the series was released. The key differences between the original anime and Sailor Moon Crystal are the animation style which is much brighter and clearer and that the plot is more loyal to the manga.
  3. Kaguya-Sama: Love is War. This show is based off of the manga by Aka Akasaka. This series is more recent, being first published in 2015. Love is War revolves around two student council members from a prestigious high school in which wealthy students attend. Miyuki Shirogane is the student council president who got into the school through an academic scholarship and Kaguya Shinomiya is the daughter of one of the most wealthy families in Japan. These two have begun crushing on each other but are too stubborn to admit it. This results in the two often playing mind games in order to trick the other into confessing their feelings.
  4. Charlotte. This show is also more recent, having been released in 2015. Charlotte is about a boy named Yu Otosaka who upon discovering he has a superpower, uses it in all of the wrong ways. Once he makes it into high school, he is quickly discovered and is forced to attend a school for students like him. Now, Yu and his new friends must find other teenagers abusing their powers and stop them before the other teenagers get caught by the authorities.

There are thousands of anime out there to watch which can be intimidating, especially for those who are new to it and don’t know where to start. Hopefully, this list was able to help with that. Happy watching!
