With the 2021 NFL quickly approaching, there is an abundance of players that NFL teams are hosting virtual visits and workouts for, as well as the many pro days around the country. The Chiefs are no different, and they’ve spent the last few weeks scouting, recruiting, and meeting with a handful of draft prospects in hopes to find their new franchise players. With the Chiefs picking at 31, it can be difficult to land a superstar right off the bat. However, it is possible, and there are a good amount of quality players that KC could take with their first-round pick. Here are 3 players that I believe the Chiefs could take in the first round. 

Elijah Moore, WR, Ole Miss

The Kansas City Chiefs already host the best offense in the NFL, but they do have a glaring need for more wide receiver depth. After Sammy Watkins left in free agency, the team has a hole at WR. Hopefully, Byron Pringle, Demarcus Robinson, and Mecole Hardman can fill that hole, but they still lack a reliable WR like Watkins was, when healthy at least. Moore is an explosive, tough receiver who blew up in his final college season, especially the last 3 games, averaging 13 catches and 200 yards per game in that stretch. At 5’9, he isn’t a huge imposing ball catcher, however, he makes up for his lack of size with strength. Moore finished his college season with 86 catches, 1,193 yards, and 8 scores. The Chiefs might have bigger needs than WR, but a new weapon for Patrick Mahomes sounds a lot more fun.

Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame

This pick is one of my favorites, and it has a strong possibility of actually coming true. The Chiefs are clearly in need of a tackle after releasing both of their starters earlier in free agency. Eichenberg is a guy who could realistically start on day one, either as a left or right tackle. While he is a projected mid-second-round pick, I could see a team taking him if they knew they could help develop him faster. His biggest flaws are his first punches, which can be slow and predictable. The reason I have Eichenberg possibly going this high is based on his raw talent, and the fact he would fill an immediate hole in that roster. If Eichenberg develops as he should, he could become an all-pro at his position. 

Joe Tryon, EDGE, Washington

Outside of offensive tackle, another edge rusher is arguably the most important need for the Chiefs. Joe Tryon would make an excellent fit opposite of Frank Clark. Tryon, a 6’5 259lb edge rusher from Washington, is projected anywhere from the late first to the late second round. He fits the long and strong role that Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo loves so much. Tryon is a productive pass rusher and also has skills in setting the run. He might be more of a project player, who could need some time to develop. However, he could be the perfect fit to bring back a vaunted pass rush in KC. Tryon opted out of the 2020 season, which could mean his limited playing time in college might be an issue. In his last season, he recorded 41 tackles, 12.5 for loss, with eight sacks in 13 games.
