The Chiefs are genuine contenders to win the Super Bowl this year. With the chiefs winning a big game over the Chargers this shows that the Chiefs are here to win it all.

Chiefs Offensive Notes

While last week vs the Cardinals the Chiefs offensive really showed out, this week not so much. They might have scored 27 points, but with a 99-yard pick-six by Jaylen Watson, the offensive only scored 20 points. Also, Patrick Mahomes while on the stat sheet looks good had a fortunate game. Mahomes should have been picked off multiple times this game and was putting the ball in jeopardy a lot throughout. This is not all of Mahome’s fault though, because the Chiefs’ O-line looked really poor against the Chargers’ steller D-line. Now all of this bad news is really just nit-picking because the Chiefs offense still played well. Mahomes again got the ball to 9 different receivers in Thursday night’s game. The Chiefs’ run game has also been very good to start the year with Clyde Edwards-Helaire averaging 9.2 yards per carry. The Chiefs’ offense is still a force to be reckoned with, and once they fix a few things as a whole they could finish as the best offense in the whole NFL.

Notable Offensive Players

  • Patrick Mahomes      (24/35 – 235 YDS – 2 TD)
  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire     (8 CAR – 72 YDS – 9.2 AVG)
  • Travis Kelce (5 REC – 51 YDS)

Chiefs Defensive Notes

The saving grace for the Cheifs in Thursday night’s game had the be this well and improved defense. This defense was functioning like a well-oiled machine all night. You had the Chief´s Dline getting pressure all night, especially from George Karlaftis and Chris Jones. This Defesnvie line is very improved from last year with the Chiefs being able to get pressure consistently. Another bright spot in this Chiefs’ defense is the standout of both Nick Bolton and Willie Gay Jr. Willie had a slow game against the Cardinals, but went out against the Chargers and look phenomenal. Willie was flying around the field all the time throughout the game and of course Nick Bolton doing the same old same old getting 10 tackles. The player who had the biggest game had to be the 7th-round pick out of Washington State Jaylen Watson. Watson was clamping up all game long. To top it off Watson picked off Herbert on the goal line and took it all the way home to give the Chiefs the momentum back.

Notable Defensive Players

  • L’Jarius Sneed (8 TCK)
  • Nick Bolton (10 TCK)
  • Willie Gay Jr (11 TCK – 2 TFL)
  • Jaylen Watson (1 INT – 99 YDS – 1 TD)
  • Chris Jones (2 Sack)
  • George Karlaftis

Some people had the Chiefs missing the playoff, and now with 2 huge wins under their belt, everyone has to take the Chiefs very seriously. The Chiefs face the Colts next week who have powerhouse Jonathon Taylor who could give them some trouble. This will be a good test of how the Chiefs’ run defense has improved.
