Chiefs Weekly: The NFL Needs to Change

A game very poorly reffed against the Chiefs and they still come out on top. The offense was super explosive and the Chiefs’ D-line looks like it is getting better.

Chiefs Offensive Notes

Patrick Mahomes is looking like this year’s MVP. Mahomes has not had one bad performance all year and he seems especially poised in this game even when he was down by 17 at one point. He was dishing out the ball to Travis Kelce a ton. Kelce ended up with 4 touchdowns which is just absurd for a TE. The only bad spot for the offense was the O-line. The O-line played terribly against this Raiders pass rush. Even though the Chiefs were without Trey Smith this is no excuse to get bullied by Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones. I liked to see more of the WR getting the ball as well. I feel for this offense to be the best in the NFL any of JuJu, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, or Travis Kelce need to be able to go off at any time and we have only really seen this out of Kelce. In the past few games though Juju has gotten the ball more, and this was Valdes-Scantling’s biggest game so far as a Chief.

Notable Offensive Players

  • Patrick Mahomes (29/43 – 292 YDS – 4 TD)
  • Travis Kelce (7 REC – 25 YDS – 4 TD)
  • Marquez Valdes-Scantling (6 REC – 90 YDS)

Chiefs Defensive Notes

The Chiefs’ defense played very well against the Raiders. When you see 29 points allowed that is not a very good scoreline though. This is because of how badly reffed this game was. There were multiple ticky-tack pass interference calls against the Chiefs which led to the Raiders building up their score. We also saw a strip sack by Chris Jones which would have given the Chiefs the ball and momentum, but the refs throw a flag for roughing the passer. This call was so bad that it has now been the talking point of the NFL. Everyone is not happy about how games are being decided based on missed calls by refs, but let us now talk about the Chiefs’ defensive performance. The Chiefs’ D-line could not be stopped everyone on the line was getting to the passer at a high rate. We also saw fantastic plays from both linebackers Darius Harris and Nick Bolton. It was just a stellar game from a very underrated defense.

Notable Defensive Players

  • Darius Harris (10 TCK – 1 Sack – 1 TFL)
  • Frank Clark (0.5 Sacks)
  • George Karlaftis (0.5 Sacks)
  • Chris Jones

The Chiefs play the Buffalo Bills next week. This is the biggest matchup of the year for the Chiefs. The Chiefs and Bills are widely considered teams one and two. This will be a very fun game that will have a lot riding on it.
