You’ve all seen those short videos in an advisory about what’s going on in Lee’s Summit High School, let’s take a closer look at what goes on behind the scenes. Some of the broadcasting staff members joined because that’s what they want their profession to look like in the future.
“I chose broadcast because I like using a camera, and I like filming things, and then I also like sports. So I took sports broadcasts as a class.” Said Senior Arthur Marrs.
The sports broadcasting class is behind all the hype videos of Tiger Sports, they also live stream all the sports.
“We make graphics and stuff so people can, like, know when events and stuff like sports are, and then we also go live stream the football games at home, so that way people can watch it. And we also film stuff to make hype videos.” Said Marrs.
Broadcasting has also been known to make various stories.
“Our class goes around, and we find stories about anybody in Lee’s Summit that we think students will care about. We interview them, we get a B roll. We create packages. It is a lot of work, but it’s also really worth it. Whenever you see the looks on their faces, the reaction you get, we kind of just put it all together in a show. We do some fun things. We go around asking people at school questions.”Said Senior Juliana Belezski.
One of the most important things about being in a new club or sport is who the leader is, it can be the determining factor if a member wants to remain in the club. If a leader is warm and welcoming, it can help students stay in the club.
“I chose broadcasting because not only does my teacher Mrs. McDonald’s give it a good environment, but I love the ability to be able to create new things and show people my work, and I love being able to work as a team with other people.” Said Belezski.
IB film is more of a behind-the-scenes class its everything that movies and TV shows use to film.
“My class, like, cracks down on what you need to create a film. So you got lighting, you got camera shots, music, color grading. We’re just doing everything to make a movie.” Said Senior Will Godfrey.
All classes could easily come up with good things to say about their adviser Mrs. McDonald.
“She’s very helpful whenever you’re learning. She’s very open to us asking questions, and she’s very energetic. The class is always very fun. It’s never boring. There’s not a moment in there where you’re not laughing. And she’s also just very nice.” Said Belezski.
