Junior Clara Meyers is a wrestler at LSHS. She started as a sophomore.
Meyers’s parents’ opinions differ on her wrestling career.
“My mom hates it, she thinks that it’s violent and gross. My dad likes it, he’s happy,” Meyers said.
Studies show wrestling can be a mentally tough sport.
”It’s the most mentally tough. It puts you in the best head space to succeed because a lot of other sports give you more encouragement and wrestling degrades you to the point where you have to fight if you want to succeed and do good in the sport,” Meyers said.
Meyers went to the National Dan Gable Donnybrook tournament for wrestling.

“She was seeded 18th, fought through the bracket, including pinning an Iowa State placer who was seeded 3rd, in order to now be going for 3rd place at this prestigious tournament where medals are personally handed out by Olympic Champion Dan Gable,” wrestling coach Cameron Pack said.
Coaches play a big part in Meyers wrestling career.
“If I didn’t like my coaches I probably would have quit because it’s such a hard sport and physically demanding,” Meyers said.
Meyers’s wrestling teammates and her father are big inspirations in Meyers’s life.
“I look up to my teammates and my dad,” Meyers said.
Meyers’s dad has always been a good influence to her for life and her wrestling career.
“My dad, he’s always been a really good influence, always encouraged me to do whatever I want and succeed highly,” Meyers said.

Meyers’s dad was a 2 time state placer for wrestling.
“As a person I’d say I’m pretty honest and I’m a very curious person and driven. When I decided I wanted to do wrestling, my mom didn’t want me to, but I just put my foot down because it was something I wanted to do and it worked out really good for me,” Meyers said.
Meyers has other interests other than wrestling, she also likes to paint.
“I’m an artist. I’ve been oil painting for around 7 years. I like to draw, go outside and play with my dog. I love to read,” Meyers said.
Along with being an artist, Meyers wants to go into biochem.
“I want to be a biochemical engineer or biochemist,” Meyers said.
