The current US War on Iran feels to me like a disaster that only looks to get even worse over time. At the beginning of the war, there was no clear goal stated publicly, and there is also extreme potential for nuclear war if escalation occurs from this conflict. Because of an absence of a clear goal as of March 25, 2026, it feels like this could be a repeat of the infamous War in Afghanistan, especially when the president has stated that the conflict has been stated to end when, in Trump’s words, “I feel it in my bones.”
As for potential causes of the war, there are hints and vague nods towards several things— wanting the Strait of Hormuz to have better trading conditions, wanting Iran to not have nuclear weapons, and regime change— but there’s no definitive answer being given about it, which just makes it hard to justify considering that there is also an extreme possibility of civilian deaths in the invasion, which has already happened with the bombings of Iranian schools and a hospital killing at least 1,443 people according to HRANA (Human Rights Activists in Iran-an Iranian human rights organization) in a statement released on March 23, 2026.
Due to the intentional destruction of cities in particular, the risk of killing civilians is overwhelmingly high, when none of this should be happening in the slightest. Also, if there are already potential war crimes like this already being committed by the US, it’s impossible for me to be okay with this. Not only that, but if this conflict escalates with Iran’s allies stepping in, such as Russia, China, Venezuela, Cuba, and North Korea, the US might possibly need its many allies to join this war, and then NATO and the entire world could be roped into World War 3. That makes nuclear war without any reason or goal far too likely.
All it could take to start World War 3 is giving Russia, China, North Korea, or any other country one more reason to go to war, and then, who knows what can happen? The entire world could be completely devastated because of this otherwise small war, all because of this senseless conflict with Iran. If peace and deescalation between the US and Iran isn’t made quickly, then millions of lives in and outside of Iran will be at risk, and we cannot be responsible for this possibility.
