Miller’s Minute: Off the Pill Podcast

While Off the Pill is very enjoyable to listen to, it is definitely better for pre-established fans of Higa’s work. Higa, along with his co-hosts for any given episode, discusses their past and future relatively frequently.

Ryan Higa is one of the most iconic YouTubers on the platform. He has been uploading videos since 2006, just a year after the site’s inception. He created comedic sketches on his main channel for over a decade until eventually completely changing his format. Starting in 2018, Higa began uploading a podcast series after a hiatus from YouTube. This became his exclusive content, causing a large divide in his fanbase.

Off the Pill, despite being rather controversial among Higa’s fans, is a very entertaining show. They have had many guests on, with my personal favorites being Ian Hecox of Smosh and Anthony Padilla, formerly of Smosh. The Smosh founders are fellow YouTube icons, having started their channel back in 2005. While Off the Pill is very enjoyable to listen to, it is definitely better for pre-established fans of Higa’s work. Higa, along with his co-hosts for any given episode, discusses their past and future relatively frequently. Anyone can technically enjoy the show, I just believe it would be far more entertaining for those who have watched Higa’s channel for some time.

The Off the Pill podcast varies greatly in terms of topics. The show is one of comedy at heart, however, they do often get into more serious topics. Considering Higa completely changed the format of his channel due to feeling drained, it makes sense that that is a topic they discuss relatively often. He had been doing the same thing for over 10 years and says he became fatigued by the monotony. Changing the channel kept him from quitting entirely, but it also led to him losing countless fans and viewers.

Considering my history with Higa as a content creator, I am rather biased towards this podcast. I love Higa and his entire crew, and believe this is a very good show. Because of this, I give this podcast an 8/10.
