Sitting with friends in classes can help or hurt how a student learns and gets their assignments done. For some students, a friend can help them understand the work, but for others, it can become a distraction.
Junior Trenton Smith said sitting with his friends in AP physics can help him understand the work better if he gets lost.

“Sometimes it allows me to actually talk to classmates and not be scared to ask for help,” Smith said.
Smith also said that working with friends can lead to distractions.
“Some common distractions are just not being able to stop talking, or someone says something funny and we can’t stop laughing,” Smith said.
Junior Ian Wright said he has trouble staying on task when he sits with his friends.

“I can’t focus when I’m sitting next to my friend and we don’t get very much work done,” Wright said.
Although he has trouble staying focused, Wright still enjoys having friends to talk to during class.
“Learning is supposed to be fun,” Wright said.
Junior Romaan Khalid has gotten worse grades since he started sitting with his friends in AP physics.

He also said having friends in the class makes it feel a lot more enjoyable, even when he needs to be working.
“It makes the class very enjoyable just because of the atmosphere,” Khalid said.
